Michael Charles Smith is a marimba soloist, composer, and teacher residing in Portland, Oregon. In addition to performing his own compositions for solo marimba, Michael covers everything from Bach to Radiohead and Ray Charles to George Gershwin, making him a hit with listeners of all ages. He performs solo marimba for wedding ceremonies, country clubs, business conferences, vineyards, and at the PDX airport for thousands of travelers weekly.
Michael is a classical percussionist with Portland Columbia Symphony. He has studied with at the University of Oregon with Charles Dowd and at Portland State University with Joel Bluestone. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Music.
In addition to percussion, Michael explores a variety of musical styles in his compositions for documentaries and short films, with music in the award-winning documentary, Six Ways To Santiago. He currently works as the composer for One Hundred Seconds documentaries, working for such clients as clothing designer Babette and Ino Group in New York City as well as Intel here in Portland, Oregon.
